setting up new 5th gen ipod touch (HELP!)

I bought the new ipod touch. I'm having some problems. The first thing I think I may have done wrong; when you turn the ipod on for the first time, it gives you 3 choices. one was something like "sync using a different itunes library," and another was "use as new ipod touch." I chose "use as new ipod touch," but not after "sync using a different itunes library." The thing that really bothered me was that the lightning connector that connects to the ipod is the same on both sides. I HAD IT IN UPSIDE DOWN. Honestly, why make it look the same on both sides?

So, in that option, my ipod said "connect to itunes," which i was, but the connector was upside down. So out of frustration, I chose "use as new ipod touch." I want to be able to transfer my music but am currently not able to, because...

While I have the latest version of itunes, I keep getting the error message, "itunes was unable to load data class information from sync services. Please reconnect or try again later." I have seen this message before, but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. The other thing, itunes does recognize the new ipod, but it has the buffering logo next to it, on the right side next to the itunes store button.

help is GREATLY appreciated.

1. The orientation of the lightning connector doesn't matter, that is why both sides look exactly the same. You can plug the lightning connector into your iPod touch "upside down" or "right side up." It doesn't matter. Plug it in however you want as it doesn't matter, there is no proper orientation. The lightning cable isn't even labeled as "this side up."

2. Are you on Windows or a Mac? What version of iTunes are you running? Do you have an older iPod touch that you were using before?

Thanks for the help; the ipod just randomly started working with my computer. I guess it just needed time to fully recognize it, but it's all set up.
