I have been listening (streaming) via Global Radio Alliance app successfully for several months. They have just recently on at least one of their programs started streaming at 128kb. Now my Gen3 iPod Touch cannot stream the content. What to do? Will the new Gen5 iPod touch handle the 128kb stream? Thanks

Your iPod can handle 128kbps content just fine. In fact, it can even play uncompressed audio at a bitrate of 1144kbps without issues. The issue isn't with your iPod but rather if your internet is capable of handling a 128kbps stream and if the updated features the app offer (such as the 128kbps stream) work with your older iPod. You may have to update iOS on your iPod touch too.

Just tried to pick GRA with the TuneIn Radio app and it is also returning an error. I can play 128kbps just fine here on my iPad 3. I searched the Canadian App Store for the GRA app but can't find it.

Thanks for the reply. I'm up to date with iOS5 (for Gen 3). I have Time Warner RoadRunner.
I do however have the Apple Airport Xtreme for my local WiFi connection. Is the Apple router capable enough? |

The router is fine, even an 802.11g router would be capable of streaming multi-channel lossless audio. It might just be an error with the service you are trying to access. You can always run an app such as Pandora to determine if you have enough bandwidth to support a 128kbps audio stream but it sounds like you do.

I doubt if there is any problem with your setup, it's a problem with GRA on their end. Audio streams are fairly easy on most wireless networks and internet connections. I regularly stream HD video here, I just tried again and TuneIn Radio just returns a stream error. TuneIn Radio also reports their stream as only being 10% reliable. I have found their stream ratings as a fairly good way to pick good reliable streams. Go to their web site and report the issue using their Contact link.

Thanks for the info. The app I was referring to is Talk Stream Live. GRA (Global Radio Alliance) uses this app. They stream many radio talk shows and I don't have a problem with any except of course the ONE that I want to listen to: Richard Dolan "Truth Out Radio" Saturday nights 8pm-11pm, EST. They upped the stream-rate from 64k to 128K. So from what you are telling me the problem may be on their end. I will contact them and relate the info. Thanks again.
