I need help right here. When I purchased a new well-sealed iPod touch 4G, the reseller didn't unsealed and activated the product for me. Instead, he told me to activate it on my own.
I felt assured and went home. But, then I found out after unsealing the iPod touch, there was no first-time activation apps, instead I could just enter the homescreen right away after "sliding to unlock". The OS was 5.1.1 although it was supposed to be 5.0.1. And I also noticed that on Apple Support Profile, it had been registered to another Apple ID. How could it possibly happen ? I mean that the iPod touch was still sealed in genuine Apple sealed (with the grey "peel off" marking). |

Personally I wouldn't have asked how or why.
I would've gone straight back to the retailer and demanded a replacement. End of story.

You obviously received a used/opened/stolen product. You can easily put the gray tape back on around the iPod touch. I actually did that with a few iPods in the past including an iPod nano and iPod touch. I took them out of the box and synced content to them for the person I was buying them for. I carefully put the screen cover on, plastic wrap around the actual iPod (yours should of had that too), the front plastic case, and then the gray/clear tape around the edge of the plastic container. They had no idea that I previously opened their iPods and put stuff on them. It didn't take all that much effort on my part either.
You need to contact the seller and get your money back. My best guess is that they purchased that iPod a short time before the 5G iPod touch came out and wanted to upgrade. Either way, it definitely isn't new. They could have properly restored it and you would have never known.
