Recently, the headphone slot on my 4th Generation iPod has become damaged and as a result of this any music played through the headphones has an annoying echo-y distant sound. Music played through docking stations which connect through the charging slot at the bottom is fine and I was wondering if their was some kind of adaptor available to allow headphones to be connect through the charging slot?

There are some headphones with built-in volume adjustment (not adjusting the volume of the iPod but rather the volume the headphones play at) but I haven't come across a pair in the stores since 2001. Sparkee's solution is the way to go if you want audio through the dock connector of your iPod. However, given the cost of a pocket dock and portable amp (or even a portable amp with a 30 pin dock connector), you might as well either replace the headphone port yourself or have someone service it for you.
