Surely this must have cropped up on a gigantic number of occasions, with each generation of iPod Touch or iPhone. I cant find anything on YouTube on this point.
It takes quite a lot to break a Touch screen: I have just finished repairing one and notice that the fall resulting in the broken screen has put a small dent in the very top left hand corner of the outer metal casing. Surely this happens a lot? I am not sure the new screen will just push into the casing inside the plastic bezel. Is the answer to just force it in and hope that the bezel molds itself to the screen or is it mandatory to try to correct the (quite small) dent in the case please? Or is there some way of filing a tiny bit off the screen itself (a few thousands of an inch!!) and if so how on earth do you file glass? Is this metal easy to push back into shape or impossibly hard, even with heat? Or is it necessary to take the whole unit down to the last screw to even try to do this? I haven't tried adhesive to secure the digitizer yet but notice that even without it, the screen wont sit flush with the bezel much beyond half way up the length of the unit. Or will it sit flush once i put adhesive tape in there? |

OK, Yes it does happen often and NO, You can not apply pressure or file the edge of the glass down.
You need to use a small pair of Snipenose pliers and bend the corner back out. Thats the only way, otherwise the glass will not sit flush again. |

Thanks for that although I was wondering whether it was normal to file down the plastic bezel insert a bit. This 'dent' is really not all that noticeable and I am not good at rectifying dents with pliers. (I am not even good with gold and a burring tool and we all know how soft gold is!) I suppose I will have to take the screen out again and figure out how to get that bezel out to try to plier the slight indentation out

I would just avoid all those damages by looking for something that will really withstand the drops, kicks, tosses, etc. I used to be a little stingy with my money but I found one that was cheap and amazing on xoskins. You can even check out their video on youtube how much it can withstand. Pretty amazing.
