iOS 5.1 downloaded to device - how to delete?

Hey all,

I recently upgraded my iPod Touch 4G to iOS 5.0.1 from 4.3.3. All went well, and I am happily running a jailbreak .

But, I am being notified to update to iOS 5.1 through Settings>General>Software Update. The download of the software started automatically and I couldn't stop the download. I checked in iTunes, and there is 1.62GBs of "Other" shown. I suspect that this is so large because of the software update download.

The download is taking up space on my iTouch. Of my 32GBs, I now only have 11.8GB free, when I had 13.0GB free back with iOS 4.3.3.

Is there a way to delete the download? I'd really like to free up the space for more music.

Here is a screenshot of the iTunes properties:

Thanks guys for the help, I really appreciate it !

You can either manually hunt down the download on your iPod touch (since it is jailbroken) or you can restore your iPod using iTunes. For people who haven't jailbroken their iPods, restoring them is the only way to go through and delete all access data that piles up under 'Other' over time.

Okay thanks, how do you manually browse through the files? And if I restore it, is there a way to prevent it from automatically downloading again?

I don't know how to manually browse the files on a jailbroken iOS device as I have never jailbroken any Apple product. Yes, you can prevent it from automatically downloading the update in the future if you restore it. In fact, the iPod itself should not automatically download iOS updates as those have to be triggered manually.

Ok I found a couple programs to browse files. I was able to open one and browse thru the files/folders. Unfortunately, I have no idea where the firmware file would be held.

I did some research and some places said there was an option in iTunes to stop automatic updates in the "Summary" section, but I can't find it anywhere.

The only reason why I like the jailbreak is battery percentage, SBSettings, and five icon dock. I could live without the SBSettings and five icon dock.

The only problem I have with iOS 5.1 is battery life. iOS 5.1 killed the battery on my iTouch. Right now, with 5.0.1, it's working fine.

I may just try and restore to see if I can prevent the automatic update. If not, then I don't know what to do next.

Thanks for the help .
