You can also try turning it off by pressing and holding the power button until you see a red icon on the display saying "slide to turn off." Another option to try is plugging it into your computer. Otherwise the only thing you can do is wait for the battery to drain. Hopefully it didn't freeze while you were trying to do something questionable like jailbreaking it.

Hi Kornchild I tried that and it didn't work. I will let the battery run down and see if it makes any difference. It could be possible that my nephew interrupted whatever was going on (jail breaking???)
Any more suggestions pls Thx |

Other than plugging it into a computer, no. There isn't anything you can do outside of what was previously mentioned. Hopefully no one was trying to jailbreak the iPod as letting the battery drain and trying to sync it again might not do anything other than continue to cause headaches. You will need to hook the iPod back up to your computer and use jailbreaking software if that is what your nephew was doing. I would ask him what he was doing with your iPod before you proceed any further.

My nephew was trying to delete all music on it connected to the lap top. Apparently some music has appeared that wasn't there originally. The iPod has the message to connect to iTunes displayed on the screen permanently it doesn't even move when I connect to the laptop /iTunes. Nothing happens. It's his mums iPod and I have the job of fixing it lol.
Any suggestions pls? Thanks |

Did you let the battery fully drain?

The iPod's battery can still charge. Letting it fully run down would force the iPod to fully reboot since you haven't been able to manually do that. So stop charging it and plugging it into your computer, let the battery drain. It might take a while (7-20 hours) depending on the screen backlight level and if the iPod has wi-fi and bluetooth turned on.

Hi - I will turn on the iPod and let the battery drain as u say. I hope it will force a reboot and start to work. Spoke to my nephew and he thinks he may have inadvertively deleted some software??? Possible but he us not too sure cos he can't remember exactly ! I will report back once the iPod had drained. Thank you

Hi this is the very reason i joined this forum to find a solution to it freezing. I only had mine for a couple of days (totally new to apple products) and the screen would go white, tried everything that has been suggested on the net, wouldn't come right till i left it for a few hrs. took it back to where i bought it today. It has been Not a very good intro to the iPod world but was assured it wasn't common for a dud iPod off the shelf. ?????

iPods come off of assembly lines. Due to the nature of assembly line processing, some units will be lemons. This happens with $300 iPods, $600 iPhones, $2000 Dell notebooks, $5000 HDTVs, and even $80,000 cars. It doesn't matter what the product is or how high the cost, assembly line manufacturing will always produce some problematic units.
You aren't the first person to buy a lemon iPod and you won't be the last. It has nothing to do with quality control at Apple's plants or anything like that, it is all based in mathematics and human nature.

Holding Power and Home button at the same time during 10 or more seconds has worked for me in the past in those rare times it happens.

Hi there I have left the iPod on for the last 2 days and the power battery doesn't seem to have reduced ! It's almost as if the batttery power is being retained rather than draining. Is this normal? I still have the msg connect to iTunes and can't do anything with it ! :-(

That is normal. The iPod's battery can last for over 40 hours when playing back music (around 41-42 hours). The iPod's battery will last a lot longer if it actually isn't doing anything. Let it sit for longer until the battery drains. Don't plug it into your computer, don't plug it into an AC adapter, and don't do anything else with it. Just let the iPod's battery drain.
