At first I thought it was the battery, as I had assessed from various sites now after having replaced the battery with a new one the problem is still present to the exact same degree.
Now the Touch will only respond when plugged in and I.E. getting power, I have unfortunetly no idea if the battery supplied to me was at all charged, but I'll be willing to pull out a millimeter to test it out at this point. What happens is: Starts up, shows the icon, but then the backlight fails, and the screen slowly depixelates until its blank. Now it would seem probable that it isn't receiving any charge and is simply starting from energy supplied via the USB line to allow a brief start up sequence from capacitor storage but not actually interacting with the battery? Update: It started up this time under a Powered USB connection but the battery is still not connecting rather the device is simply running on the USB power, I'm not 100% sure that I did the solders perfect but I imagine in any case I couldn't have done them that bad as to have the same results before, which is making me thing something else is wrong.
