Bluetooth Problems

I'm having problems using a bluetooth headset with my iPod Touch. I have a 4th generation iPod Touch, and I'm trying to use a Motorola S305 headset with it, to listen to music and podcasts. It seemed to work at first (I originally got the headset in December) but now I'm getting a lot of dropouts. The headset works if I'm holding it right next to my head, but if I move away, even just lowering my arm to hold the iPod next to my waist, the sound cuts out for few seconds, every minute or two.

I tried to figure out whether the problem was the headset, the iPod or something else. I tried an older headset with a dongle to see if there was some kind of interference with the bluetooth signal, but it worked fine. I also tried pairing my headset with my Macbook, and the headset seems to be working OK - no dropouts when using the Macbook. So it seems like the problem is with the iPod Touch itself.

I did some internet searching and found some reports of bluetooth problems with previous iOS versions, but most of them reported that the problems went away with iOS 4. I'm using 4.2.1. I also tried some of the suggestions such as turning off WiFi and shutting down other apps. That didn't make any difference.

Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks,
Karen

You can try resetting your iPod. This is done by holding the button in until you see a red slider saying "slide to turn off." You can also restore the iPod with iTunes erasing everything on it and putting it back to factory standards.
