Question Where are Ipod Touch backup files that I can delete?

I had to update one of my kids Ipod Touch and it created a backup first. No problem. We tried to restore from the backup after the update and it didn't work. Not a problem, he just re-loaded the Ipod from the multiple libraries we have on various devices.

Here is my problem. This is an XP machine and the drive is bulging with data, and has almost run out of room since the backup. I want to delete the files it backed up, but can't find them!! It's only about 1.5 gb of data but at this moment it is alot for the drive and I want to get rid of it.

A google search showed me some places to look, ie Documents And Settings/user~~/Applications Data/Apple Computer, etc but I am not sure what I am looking for and not sure what to delete.

This machine has XP SP 3.

What should I delete? Thanks!!!

Smile Found something, can I delete???

Ok. A little bit more digging and I found a whole bunch of files/folders like this:

C:\Documents and Settings\User1\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Backups\9C903CDK208\Media\iTunes_Control\Music\F00

C:\Documents and Settings\User1\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Backups\9C903CDK208\Media\iTunes_Control\Music\F03

and inside each folder I find a whole bunch of files including music files.

Can I delete all of these folders? How far back up the chain can I delete?

Thanks

If you fire up iTunes and click on edit, preferences, devices, you will see a list of backup's which have been created by iTunes. In there it will tell you the pod's name time and date stamp, the ones without a time and date stamp are your current backups, highlighting one of them and clicking the delete button will remove that backup.

Thanks, but I need more

West Germanic.....thanks for your response. I did that, but it did not clear space (almost 1gb) on my drive.

I need to know if I can manually delete the folders such as found on these threads:

C:\Documents and Settings\User1\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Backups\9C903CDK208\Media\iTunes_Control\Music\F00

C:\Documents and Settings\User1\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Backups\9C903CDK208\Media\iTunes_Control\Music\F03

and if so, how far back up the chain can I go?

Yes you can delete them manually, how far up the chain is going be up to you.

The folders with the date and time stamp are the archived backups, ones without are your current backup.

Example would be :

a5db56aa7f2369c2cb5550869188fe652da8590a-20101222-215248
----------------------------------------------------->[<-----Here----->]

If you want to extract the backups or just to have a look, doing a search on iPhone backup extractor should reveal some results, can't tell you much about them never use them myself.
