I have an 8 gig 1st gen iPod touch and I want to be able to chat on it via Facebook but whenever I try to add the app, it tells me that I need a later iPod software. THEN when I try to update it, it says that my 2.2.1 software is the latest, which obviously isn't true. I know there has to be a way I can update it in order to have this app but how? Do I have to "jailbreak" it or something? Is that even safe. Like I said, I just want to be able to have the Facebook app so I can chat. Your help would be very much appreciated!

For 1st gen Touch owners, you can download the 3.1.3 OS from Apple here. It may cost you $5 though. Before updating the OS, check the Facebook app compatibility in the App Store to make sure it supports OS 3 ... it could require iOS 4, in which case you'd be out of luck since you can't put iOS 4 on a 1st gen Touch.
