I have a 1G touch. It will not power on and pressing the power and home buttons does not reset it. When I connect it to the USB, the pc recognizes the device and itunes will ask me to restore. When I choose to restore, the black screen changes to the screen with the apple icon and it proceeds to reload. At the very end of the reload process when verification of the load is taking place itunes aborts with error code (6) the ipod screen turns off and the process is complete. I have tried to load firmware 3.1.3_7E18 and it does the same thing. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have tried this on multiple pcs and usb ports and the end result is the same.

Have you tried restoring it from DFU mode yet?

When the touch connects to the pc, it says it is in DFU. I have also held down the power/home keys as other members have done to be certain it is in DFU. Maybe it can't be fixed or maybe I need a different version of firmware (older than I am using)?
