Talking Best deal on 4th gen iPod touch

Hi folks,

Am planning to buy the new iPod Touch. The best deal I've found is here. I know Apple doesn't typically discount their products, so even a 4% discount is nice.

Is this the best deal, or has anyone found somewhere cheaper?

Thanks!

You might be able to find some cash back deal through Bing shopping. Again, the amount of money that you would get back is extremely low. I searched for my $320 nettop through Bing shopping and I could have received $10 back if I went through some website linked to by Bing. However, their free shipping was through standard snail USPS mail. So I didn't save the $10 and just went through Newegg as they had free three day shipping.

So you might not be able to find anything through Bing search or it may end up taking forever. I know many people, including myself, you paid the extra 4% and just purchased from Apple.com as Amazon normally takes a week or two longer to get new iPods in stock. It is looking like the new iPod touch models will be released on the 15th by Apple so Amazon likely won't be shipping them until the 22nd or even the 29th.

well, that sux. I ordered mine from Amazon.com and paid the full $399... so not the dilemma:

A) cancel the order and re-order to save the $15 bux and lose my "spot in line" and possibly wait a week longer to get mine.

B) suck it up and keep my order and hope mine comes soon.

P.S. Kornchild, i hope you are wrong about apple not shipping them till the 15th. how reliable is that info?

Where did you get this date from? It's the first I've seen it mentioned and everyone else was assuming they would be released today since this is when they're releasing iOS 4.1 unless they delayed it after announcing it.

Not saying you're wrong, just wondering what your source is for Apple being over a full week late on shipping something from what they announced at the keynote.

I just exercised Option C:

C) call Amazon.com and complain that i am being charged more than the current price even though my item hasn't shipped yet.

That worked and i am now paying the lower price.. thanks for the heads up jastevenson!!

While on the phone i asked when they expected to get the ipods in, seeing that most people were speculating today. He told me my order is expected to ship on the 17th. That makes sense. 2 days after Apple would be delivering them to Amazon.

Yeah, that date given to me was wrong. I got the date from someone who works at the Apple Store in Kenwood. I got know them from the iPad launch and saw them at the Mayhem Festival earlier this year along with a few other concerts. We exchanged e-mails and that has been about it. I actually stopped by and saw them last weekend to ask when the new models would come in.

He was actually kind of right with the 15th date as not every capacity and color is available for each model from the Apple Store. Last time I checked, the Apple Store in Kenwood didn't have anymore 64GB 4G iPod touch models in stock as they didn't receive that many. It appears that the 8GB and 32GB models are going to be the hot sellers so they had more of those in stock. Additionally, not every store is going to get iPods in until the 15th. I already know that one of the Best Buys won't be selling their until next week after they are put in the Sunday ad. So yeah, the date of the 15th was somewhat incorrect and partially correct. Well, I guess now I know to never fully trust anyone working at an Apple retail Store. I e-mailed him basically saying "what the ####?" so we will see what they say.

Sucks to them. I can't really say that I blame them as many of the discounts were ~$10 for products that were $300+. That is a lot of effort for such a small discount that you have to jump through hoops for.
