Help ~ I Can't Read My Books

I have an iPod Touch 32 Gig.

I recently downloaded some books from iTunes. I then downloaded them (I think) to my iPod Touch.

My problem is that I can't "see" them on my machine. Do I need somekind of reader or something? I've clicked on all my icons and I still don't see anything.

I'd appreciate any help you can offer.

What format are the books in? Yes you need some type of reader to read books on the touch. However, most of the readers download directly through the app. Without jailbreaking I think the only reader that will allow syncing through iTunes is iBooks which requires iOS 4.0.
