Welcome to iLounge.
You will need to replace the digitizer as it seems to be the part that's damaged. Water damage are not covered by the Apple warranty. For the jailbreak, you can always restore it to the Apple firmware and it will wipe out everything on your iPod.

Water damage is not covered under the Apple warranty (assuming it's still under warranty). You can try taking it to them to see if they will replace it. Keep in mind that they have some kind of water sensor in the headphone jack. You can take a look inside and see if the color changed (it should be white by default). The color will change if water comes in contact with it.
Can you see anything behind that touch screen? If you can, you probably just need to replace the touch screen (aka digitizer). You might want to open it up and make sure nothing else is damaged or corroded in there due to the water that came in contact with it.

Digitizer...just make sure you get it for your generation as I'm sure they are not compatible with each other.

Seeing even a slight amount of pink or red in the headphone hole indicates water so Apple won't repair it.
It needs to be opened up by someone with experience, they may just see areas with corrosion that may just be cleaned off and it may work again. It is just a guess and luck and trial and error repairing water damage as this can kill some components that renders the ipod as parts only, usually the end of the main board. As far as the backlight goes, you have to buy an LCD not a Digitizer. The LCD is underneath the digitizer glass and comes as LCD/backlight together. |

I'm sorry. Thanks for the correction alexmyron
I don't remember seeing the backlight sold separately...maybe a little more searching and you could fine one. Otherwise, you will have to buy the LCD that comes with one.

I think you need to go to Settings/General/AutoLock and change it to 1 minute, you will have to push the button and then slide to unlock it, when I did this the battery lasted a lot longer.

The backlight is built into the bottom of the lcd display, the same as a laptop screen. If the backlight has gone it means one of two things.
The inverter controller on the logic board has been damaged or the lcd itself is faulty. I would say 8 times out of 10 it's the lcd but occasionally its the logic board, so be aware, a new LCD might not resolve it. |

This post was made almost two years ago. KNITINA decided to randomly bump it for one reason or another. The OP definitely isn't active anymore and I don't think anyone else in this thread is active either, we will likely never see KNITINA again either. Just a random forum bump.

I dropped my iPod touch in a puddle.
Ended up cracking the digitiser, touch screen stopped working. Also my LCD backlight was not working. Could see my screen but was very faint. Referred to various forums. Dried out in a sealed bag with dry rice for about 4 days. Ordered a new digitiser and LCD. Fitted new parts. Touch screen now works fine but now still have a backlight issue. Have read various more forums. Suspecting a logic board problem now. I've already spent about £25 on parts. If I can get a logic board for my iPod for a sensible price work will pay for parts as it belongs to work. HELP please. Good suppliers needed. iPod touch 2nd gen 8GB. Thanks. |

Ok what generation is your ipod touch. If it a 1st gen- pretty sure it's not your lcd, but it's your lcd connector and might be some corroded on the board, that eat up one of the bight light traces, or could be the back light IC. If your touch is a 2nd, 3rd gen then again corrosion caused your ipod not to turn on. NOt the LCD.
When you have a water damage ipod dont turn it back on. Best way to do is open it out and clean it up and dry it out. |

Again For IPOD user please please ----When you have a water damage ipod dont try to turn it back on, dried in a bag of rice or anything like that doesn't work for long even if ipod is turn back on. Once water is entered there's no way you can escape from corrosion, unless you open it out and clean up the circuit.
One of the resister on the board is corroded. Sorry buddy can't help, I do fix ipods and iphone but hard to tell you up here. Have to replace some components on the board and your ipod is good to go. |
