how does ipod store music ? (dumb question)

probably a really, really stupid question.

but how does the ipod store the music? it doesnt store it by playlist does it?

so if i have the same song on 4 playlists, it doesnt have 4 instances of the song on the ipod (and thus taking 4 times the space on the ipod) ?

=P

a playlist is a list of shortcuts to songs in the library.
