ipod touch 1st gen vs 2nd gen.

I've been comparing the ipod touch 1st and 2nd gen. Is the only difference the dedicated music buttons, speaker, and new firmware? I could update the firmware ($10) and live without the dedicated music buttons and the speaker. Is there a difference at all on what apps you can run from the app store depending on what ipod touch you have? Also, would my V-Moda Vibe headphones fit in the headphone jack? I remember alot of people had to buy adapters for their headphones (or something like that), but that might of just been the iphone. I can get a 16gb refurb 1st gen touch from apple for $230.00 including the $10 firmware update, and i can get a 8gb 2nd gen touch for $230.00.

If anyone has any opinion on what the best route to take, it would be appreciated.
