ipod touch 2g speaker quality issue

I broke my 2g touch and got it replace at the shop and now to me this new touch sounds slightly worse, could it just be my ears telling lies or possible there could be a chance of a slightly faulty speaker?

Now I did have a hard back cover on my other touch so I don't know if that effected the quality at all. On my new touch I just have a front and back invisible protective shield. I played the music out loud first on a flat desk which kinda reflex the music coming out and causes it to sound bad but if you pick up the touch the quality improves, so I think that first experience with it being on the desk has got me paranoid. Also when you play the music on full volume does the back of your touch vibrate a little? as I can't remember my old one doing that, might of been something to do with the case I had.

So would you also say the quality of music on the touch at full volume on the speaker doesn't sound very good, mainly just the quality of the voice of the artists, a bit high pitched?

At full volume, the back will definitely vibrate! It's such a tiny speaker, don't expect too much and don't expect to hear it clearly in any but the quietest of environments. I can hear it fine at home, but at the mall--no way.

The iPod touch really has a crappy speaker that was added mainly for game playback, that way the iPod touch would compete with the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP. Music and video playback should still use the headphones for optimal quality. My 2G iPod touch's speaker is pretty bad though and definitely not as good as the one in my cellphone. Then again, the one in my cellphone was designed to play high volume ring tones/music for a short period of time.

Either way, I think your iPod touch is fine as the speaker is pretty bad on all models. In fact, it is the worse portable speaker that I have ever heard on any device. The speaker isn't meant for high quality portable playback though, it is mainly there to serve as a temporary method of playing audio (mainly game audio) until you can plug in headphones or a better quality speaker system.

cheers, yh glad Im not the only one that feels the same way. Glad it has a speaker though but just wanted to double check it's isn't great. I guess it's just a feature apple will upgrade in the future as another selling point.

How long is the speaker expected to last? Any clues?

Way to dig up a 7 month old unrelated thread
It depends on how often you use it, and how you use it
It should outlast the use of the device though, meaning you'll probably upgrade it before it fails (or by the time it fails you'll want to upgrade it anyway)
