Touch won't hold charge

Hello,

I received an iPod Touch for Christmas, and it's been working great until recently. About three weeks ago it stopped holding a charge for more than a day, even sitting unused on the desk. This past week it started to hold the charge for about an hour unused, and then finally stopped even taking a charge (wouldn't turn on, even plugged in).

I took it to the Apple store yesterday, and they replaced it with a brand new one. Great, I was thrilled. I charged it up, restored my music to it and everything seemed fine. I added a few more songs to it this morning, and it was still working great it seemed, but I went to use it at work an hour later, and it was dead. Won't even turn on for a second.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or has an idea what may be causing it. It seems odd that two different iPods would be having the exact same problem. The first ipod I tried charging on both the USB, and the wall charger, but the new one has only ever been on the USB.

--EDIT--

I just tried plugging it in again, and just like the other one, it won't even turn on when plugged in. Is it possible that either the cable, or the usb port could be causing it to overload?

Steve

Thanks,
Steve

Do you once in a while do complete discharges followed by a full charge to cycle the battery? Perhaps the wireless is on or music is playing in the background?

I have to fully power mine off every time I am done with it, leaving it on sleep depletes the battery really quickly for no apparent reason.

Wow that is strange. My Touch holds the charge regardless if i put it to sleep if I click once on the sleep button or if I hold down to slide/shut it off. Actually, I never shut it off. I usually just leave it on until it sleeps on its own. And I usually get over 5 hours when watching videos. I get about 5-6 when I use Safari and watch YouTube. WiFi saps up a lot of battery life. If you plan on listening to music only, I suggest disabling your WiFi to help prolong battery life.

It must be a problem with your USB cables? if you are connecting w/ either to your comp. or from a wall charger and have the same probs, than that boggles me. Especially after your replacement is suffering the same problem. This is definitely a strange one to figure out.

OK, so after after looking at it, it's not the same problem. Turns out that this the screen won't turn on after a while, and I have to restart it by holding down the power and the home buttons. It only seems to happen when the device is in motion, and not in use (either walking, in the car or the bus) If it's just sitting on the desk, it's fine. Strange.
