Unable to Join Wifi network Problem

I just got my Touch a few days ago. Right out of the box the wifi was able to pick up an open network in my building and join successfully. I then synced with the itunes software to load my music. After doing so I am not able to join any Wifi networks ( open or my own secured network with password) except for one : the apple store network works . I haven't been able to speak to a technician in the store and the phone support was clueless.

I have reset the unit but not restored yet, any ideas?

thanks much

Does the wifi you're trying to access have WPA or WEP? If so, you'll need the access codes. There are some versions of Wifi (some of the free places run this) that the touch can't see yet.

Also... one thing... you said the touch worked on Wifi right out of the box. It doesn't. It requires you to first connect to iTunes to register it. At such time it should sync as you set it up.

Did you register it, but not sync the music or photos? Or did you actually sync it? Either way, there is info that has been ommitted that could be helpful.

Yes my touch is picking up tons of wifi networks. the first time it connected after I registered through iTunes software it connected to an open linksys router in my building.
after syncing I couldn't anymore. I've not been able to join my WEP protected network with password either.

I tried the trick with changing the DNS entry to my routers IP, didn't work.
I then tried the OPEN DNS trick, didn't work.

I have an appointement with the Apple Store techies today, will post solution, thanks!

[edit]
just came back from the apple store, they couldn't really help me . they were satisfied to see the touch connect to the store's airport
they told me to go do a hard reset on my linksys.....

See, I tried to do that today! I called my ISP and the guy on the phone told me how to do it but it was difficult! It's a tiny little hole in the back of the linksys and I couldn't press it down and hold it. So he arranged for a tech to come to my house tomorrow to do it.

Paperclip FTW

Found on a Firewire cable - If you need to detain a burglar until the authorities arrive, this FireWire cable can render approximately three perpetrators immobile when properly hog-tied.

Try doing a system restore in iTunes.

My wifi was working fine and connecting to my network. I then updated to the latest firmware and it stopped working. It wouldn't connect to any network (even though it could see them)
I did a system restore and it started working again. *shrug*

Linksys Wifi Fix Here

Finally found the solution on another tech forum. If you have a Linksys Router and have problems follow these steps. I am bringing the info to the apple store, the techs there should really know about these issues and how to solve them since linksys are used in a lot of house holds:

Solved - Solved -Solved

I held my iphone touching the antenna of WIFI router, it connected to the router. I was able to use the internet in this position only. Moving away from router's antenna, internet does not works. At leaset now I can do some very urgent works on iphone without GPRS connection.
