any real advantage to a 'new' touch versus the 'old' touch?

i am just wondering if there are any advantages to buying the 'new' touch versus the 'old' touch? i know you get the apps with the newer version with the newer software, but would there be any hardware reason to purchase a 'new' one? newer battery? anything going on under the hood?

thanks.
