I'm on iPod touch firmware 1.0, will going to 2.1 have any significant battery performance increases? I don't want to pay for new firmware just because I bought the iPod touch earlier than the rest of the customers, that's just stupid

Having the 2.1 upgrade is like having an entirely different iPod. Its no longer just for music/video/photos/internet, its now your mobile gaming device, its just great with the update. I think you will enjoy it.

Itouch battery life

I was just wondering what would be the battery life for using apps, mine seems to be really shor. Also, is there anyway to get Adobe Flash Player on it?

Great stuff! I'm just glad that you have the time, patience, and social values to make the tests!

I'd be interested in some of these same tests, but with the wi-fi on vs. wi-fi off. For example, I'm assuming that the music test was with wi-fi OFF.

How about an ebook reading test? Low brightness, dark theme (blue text on black background), with wi-fi off.

Thanks for the info. The only time I worry about battery life is when I am on a long flight. I don't have a power plug for airplanes or cars so battery life is important when flying international and watching your own movie or listening to your favorite music. Most airlines have few power plugs in economy class and I never get a seat with a plug. Emirates airlines has two 110 AC outlets for each three coach seats. When the airlines get WiFi I will have to decide if it's worth it to pay the price and buy a power plug.

You can increase your battery life during app use by turning off WiFi and Bluetooth, and by lowering the screen brightness. Some apps just take more battery than others, though, so there's a limit to how much effect you can have (besides not running apps that you notice drain the battery quickly).

And unfortunately Flash is not available for the Touch right now (and Apple doesn't seem to be in a hurry to add it), but if it WERE available, it would kill your battery life even faster
