Is there a way to organize Cover Flow?

I just got a new 8GB iPod touch last week. Upgrading from my old, antiquated iPod Mini... it's amazing. Something kind of bothers me though, and if this question has been asked before, please accept my apologies ahead of time.

Ok, take for example this:
Artist: Squaresoft, Album: Kingdom Hearts Original Sound Track [Disc One]
Artist: Squaresoft, Album: Kingdom Hearts Original Sound Track [Disc Two]

They're exactly the same right? Except that one is Disc One, and the other's Disc Two. Common sense says they should be right next to each other in Cover Flow mode, right? Right?!

Apparently, I was wrong to believe that. There's, hold on a second and let me count them, 14 other albums that are separating the two of them in the Cover Flow. A similar problem occurs in regards to my Read Or Die sound tracks.

Why does this occur, and is there a way to fix it manually?

I'm sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean by "check the tags". Would that be the same as clicking on "Get Info"?... and if so, what should I be looking for?

ID3 and other tags
Main articles: ID3 and APEv2 tag
A "tag" in a compressed audio file is a section of the file that contains metadata such as the title, artist, album, track number or other information about the file's contents.

As of 2006, the most widespread standard tag formats are ID3v1 and ID3v2, and the more recently introduced APEv2.

APEv2 was originally developed for the MPC file format (see the APEv2 specification). APEv2 can coexist with ID3 tags in the same file or it can also be used by itself.

Tag editing functionality is often built-in to MP3 players and editors, but there also exist tag editors dedicated to the purpose.

in itunes you can edit the tag info on the media files. get info is kind of an auto feature to get info from apple from what info it has and then auto populate the file tag info. however this is not always good as apple does not have a super huge database of info. I find a external tag editor better IMO. I use MP3tag ( http://www.mp3tag.de/en/ ) this let me edit and fix tag info on files, also I can get cover art and tag the files with them.

Just having an extra space in the 'tag' can throw 2 disc collections apart - make sure that the titles are EXACTLY the same.

Also, check the Album artist.

I had albums I had expected to be sorted right next to the other and the difference was that one was sorted as various artists as the album artist while the other wasn't. Various artist will sort to V while compilations with no album artist will sort to the end I think.

So check these tags and the others already mentioned. This is my experience with iTunes, which I hope translates to the touch, but you never know how crazy sync issues arise sometimes!

Good luck.

You might also use the "Disc Number" tag - take Album: Kingdom Hearts Original Sound Track [Disc One]" and tag it Disc Number "1"; tag
"Album: Kingdom Hearts Original Sound Track [Disc Two]" Disc Number "2."

Make all the tracks "Album: Kingdom Hearts Original Sound Track."

Then, if you play the first track of what was the "Disc One," it will play through "Disc One" and go on to "Disc Two" like it was all one disc.

Ok, I've gotten things fixed now. The problem with Kingdom Hearts appears to be that there were two songs on Disc Two that weren't by Squaresoft, rather they were by Alan Menken/Howard Ashman and Danny Elfman. Changing them to Squaresoft sent the Disc to its' proper slot, next to Disc One.

Similar changes to other music put them where I want them in Cover Flow. So happy now!

I would like to thank you all for your help, it's very much appreciated. Thank you!
