Touch gets very hot when operating and hotter when charging

So my touch gets very hot when I use it to browse the Internet. I thought that it was kind of normal maybe just heat from my hands. Then I hooked my touch up to charge it this morning when I came back later to get and head to school, I picked it up then immediately dropped it back on to my desk (about an inch or two nothing major). My touch was so hot I could not pick it up. Is anyone elses iPod touch experienced this. This incident cemented the return/exchange of my, I was ok with my screen but not the overheating or possible explosion of my iPod.

Everyone's iPod gets warm when you are browsing the internet. Did you lock it with safari still open? When you turn it off make sure you press the home button, this might help with the heat. But if it was extremely hot I would take it back, it is not supossed to get that hot where you can't even touch it.

I found the same problem. Not so hot that I couldn't hold it in my hand but it definitely gets kind of warm when using it and pretty damn warm when it charges.

So I made a two hour drive to the apple store and exchanged it for an iphone. The manager of the store(knoxville) was extremely friendly on the phone and did the exchange with no hassle, only after the genius tried to make an appointment for me two days later. I want to use the iphone in the same way as the touch, does anyone know how to do this? I got an iphone only because i like it more than the touch, i find it more aesthetically pleasing.
