Apple logo coming off

I have noticed that the "Apple" logo in the back of my and my sister's 2G Shuffles is slowly coming off and getting smudgy. The only reason I see for mine doing that is that I might have touched it with MOIST fingers (not wet) with a lil sweat when I take it to the gym, but other than that, my Shuffle is taken care of pretty well.

I thought Apple etched the logos in the back with laser, as in the 5G iPods, but I guess the Shuffle is different, since its cheaper.

Anyone else noticed this? No big deal tho. Just a lil cosmetic flaw. But Im still very happy with my Shuffle.

Well the 1st G white iPods have the logo lazered in. No way to ever rub off.

I don't know if the 2 G have it lazered in. But I find it hard to believe it would rub off, even if it was not lazered in, these things are high quality. Do you know for sure it is an authentic Apple? Where was it purchased? There are some fake iPods that look very real.

Someone please tell us if the logo on the 2nd G is lazered in or not.

I know for sure its an authentic Apple iPod. I bought it at an authorized Apple retailer, where they sell all things Apple.

I am pretty sure the logo is not etched with laser, since my sister's Shuffle has a noticeable smudge on it. She doesnt take as good care of hers as I do with mine, and yet mine has a lil smudge too, but mine is not as noticeable. I only noticed it because I am really detail oriented and picky.

I also am sure its an authentic iPod Shuffle because I registered it through the Apple website and it all went smoothly. The serial number was accepted and it recognized my iPod right away.

So to all of you Shuffle owners, dont touch that logo with moist hands or anything that could somehow rub it off.

Now that I remember, I could have also had some remnants of cologne in my fingers when I touched it, after I went out. So yeah, that could have caused it. It comes off easily.

Maybe the newer colored Shuffles are different tho. Mine is one of the first ones that came out (Silver).

I noticed a nice line through my orange 2G shuffle..I don't know how it happened..but my Silver shuffle doesn't have any problems with the logo and its the oldest.

Happened with mine too. I got mine the first week they were released from Best Buy. As long as it dosent happen to the controls, I'm ok with it.

Im glad to see Im not the only one. Since my Shuffles logo got a lil smudged, I take even better care of it and its barely noticeable but its hard to never touch the logo while youre handling the iPod. Oh well.

I've noticed a similar thing on my 2G nano. I wouldn't say it was "coming off" but more like fading away. It's not that bad but I definitely see the difference when compared to a new 2G nano.

Thats terrible! I thought the Nanos would have the logo etched in with laser like the 5G iPods.

I thought this was a Shuffle exclusive problem, since its the cheapest iPod in the line-up but jeez, a fading logo on a Nano would be a good reason for me to be angry.

Eh. Any good iPod user would have their iPod nano in a case thus you would rarely ever see the fading logo. I am sure Apple wanted to save money so they use the same logo painting process as with the shuffle. I wouldn't expect laser engraving from a $150 iPod. Maybe iPod nanos that go for $249 though.

Thats partly true, SOME iPod users tho, prefer to have their iPods "naked", and since the Nano is less scratch prone now that its made from aluminum, its not as unreasonable as having a 1G nano naked used to be.

The 1G Nanos had the laser engraved logo, and they were around the same price the 2G Nanos are now. So thats just a downgrade in quality on Apples part in my opinion.

It's never been unreasonable to use an iPod without a case.

Waaah, surface scratches that don't in any way affect functionality!

Yeah, to each his/her own. Personally I dont like the surface scratches so Ive always kept my iPod in a case. Youre right in that they dont affect functionality tho, except on an 5G iPod where they might interfere with video viewing.

It sounds like Apple is just getting cheap on us. Cause the 1st Gen iPod Shuffles, even the 512mb that only cost about $79 new at the time have the Apple Logo etched in lazer. I don't see why the new ones shouldn't have it. Everyone with this problem should complain to Apple or they wont know it's a problem.

I totally agree. I am gonna try to leave some feedback in their support forums because Im sure theres quite a few people annoyed by this. Not that theres anything to be done about it tho, its not like Apple is gonna improve the quality and replace our Shuffles or anything.
