Orange light blinks when charging

I bought a Shuffle and charged it for the first time yesterday. However, when it is plugged into the USB port on my laptop and is charging, the orange light blinks all the time. I thought it was supposed to be on continuously, and not blink.

I left it charging for 4 hours and it remained this way; the solid green light never appeared. Once I unplugged it from the USB port, the battery indicator light does show green, but I am not sure if the Shuffle is really charged.

Is this the correct way to charge the Shuffle or could something be wrong with it?

Thanks.

you have to eject it from iTunes (or within My Computer or from the taskbar on a PC) in order for the blinking lights to go away. After you eject...if the light stays orange it is not fully charged, but if it is green it is fully charged and you can remove it from the computer.

If you are on a PC, try ejecting it from the Windows Explorer and then eject it from iTunes. That cleared the blinking light for me...
