hello,
I have an iPod shuffle that is good and working with my laptop,
but a friend of mine gave his shuffle to fill it up for him and isnt wokring at all...
it's strange, when I plug it on the USB port
(btw I tried all the ports already),
the green light flashes for an instance and then... nothing...
no sound from windows that a USB device is connect...
and nothing else... the shuffle isnt recognised at all :-(
guess there isnt much to do about it, except contacting the apple service huh?

ps (sorry for my english )

Is this just a question forum? Are any of you folk getting any answers? I am having much the same problem -- XP nor iTunes recognize my Shuffle. But otherwise, it works.

I sure would appreciate some help!

yeah I have not seen an answer to it yet.

I am thinking it has something to do with the new firmware?

I can get it to work by using an USB extender cable and pulling it out a bit and wiggeling it around. But needless to say it is like it does not make a connection. Even when I am able to rig it to work, it only works for a few minutes.

Really really bummed.

How can we get Apple to respond!!!!!!!

Geez. I new this probably wasn't a unique problem.

Sorry --- no answers, only questions.

More discussion:

My daughter's iPod Shuffle suddenly is no longer recognized by ANY computer it is attached to, but still plays.

We bought 5 refurbished iPods from AppleStore online, so I took it to a retail store to have it check out, only to be told that it's an HP co-branded iPod and I need to contact HP for support.

Isn't an Apple product an Apple product?????

Have you tried the "5 R's" on Apple's support site?

Angry I hate to say it, but "me too!"

My Shuffle started having this issue about the same time this thread started (end of March, while I was preparing to pack it up for Spring Break vacation). I ended up leaving it home during vacation, and have since used it for about 3 times per week during my workouts, up until today when the battery died.

I have tried connecting it to 2 different PCs at home, 2 at work, done all the upgrading/reinstall of software to no avail -- still absolutely no sign that it is even connected, including no signs of charging light when plugged in to the USB port. FYI, my wife's Shuffle works fine, and also my "other" iPod -- a 5G 30GB iPod w/Video.

Of course, this issue popped up about a month after the warranty ran out, thanks to Murphy -- or maybe it's just an internal "crap-out" timer to get me to replace it ?!?!?!?

Anyway, I will try connecting overnight to see if it takes a charge, even though there is no signs of that happening (it's not even getting warm after the hour I've had it connected so far).

I've tried all the reset procedures I've found, but nothing, including the iPod Updater not even recognizing it. So, if anyone has run across a miracle, please let me know.

Thanks,

Gary

OK so I got to the point of nothing I tried would get it to connect.
- I was able to use a USB extention cable and wiggle it out just enough to get it to connect and then not move it, after a while that refused to work.
- I got in there and cleaned the contacts on the shuffle and PC, nuttin
- I just think the USB connection on it just gave up.
- This was one severely used shuffle. It had even started to rust on the USB cuz I had sweated on it soooooo much. It was curved from being zip tied to my straps, carved the slider for a better grip, scratched to hell, and had played so many hours of music. basically I got my moneys worth.

I bit the bullet and picked up another shuffle. I just love how small it is and the ease of use, I can control it in my pocket with gloves on no prob. It was really strange to see the green light pop on when I plugged the new one in

I decided to non destructivlt dismantle the dead one. looked over the USB connection and could see nothing wrong. Wiggled a few things around and still nothing. Kind of bummed that it would just die like that, but I got a freaking ton of use out of it.

Basically I think the reason none of us are getting an answer on this issue is cuz there is no answer. Your shuffle has gone to ipod heaven. But I am using the cadaver for some extra parts if I need them in the future

Me to

I was gonna start a thread on this cause I thought I might be unique, guess not. My shuffle does the same thing everyone else's does it is not recognized by any computer anywhere and it does nothing other then flash an orange light when it is connected to a usb port. I am seriously frustrated.
