Exclamation Shuffle and sweat danger

FYI if you are using or planning to use your Shuffle at the gym, be advised that sweat presents a serious danger. I used my Shuffle with the apple armband for about 5 months before experiencing the damage.

One day, the shuffle mode did not work, the next day the unit totally shut down. It would charge and load songs but buttons did not work and it would not play at all.

The good news is that Apple is sending a free replacement as it is covered by the 1-year warranty.

Bottom line--If your plan is to use your shuffle for the gym, etc., invest in a waterproof case.

If anyone has any recommendations on such a case, please post a reply!

similar case to this one: Does sweat really kill the shuffle? and a while back we had a sweaty guy break his mini. Also I would reccomend in the waterproof shuffle case apple offers for $30. It is actually waterproof for about 30 seconds in water, I tried.

Otterbox.com. They have a truly waterproof case for the shuffle. It's $30. I don't own one yet, but I've heard great things about it. I'll probably get one in the near future.

i'm taking a wild guess here but i think 20GB ipod that's been thrown into a pool would not only come out "not right", but it'll be completely dead, too

next gen = next generation = 2nd generation shuffle

20GBs have an HDD and shuffles have flash memory. flash-based players are used for working out in the gym, biking, or any outdoor activities, so it's only reasonable that they make em waterproof.

The waterproof feature would be good addition. It may be unnecessary to you, but to others they're useful. Ask faustmn, he's got the broken Shuffle.

who would be stupid enough to let the shuffle get wet by rain or leaving it on your pants and tumble dry the shuffle or let it fall on the pool...i mean, if you're that clumsy, u obviously dont care for shuffle and should buy something bigger to take notice of... besides, there is no way the shuffle can be made waterproof, be realistic, only a case would protected, thats why apple made one and the only way one can think of of making the shuffle "water invincible"is selling it with and incorporated clear case around it, which would take the appeal of it, since it may not add some weight but would make it look bigger, which take the appeall off "its smaller than a pack of gum, do not eat shuffle"...geezus...

No, I don't sell the otterbox. I don't even own one yet because I'm seldom near water. I use the Marware Sport Grip because the carabiner hook is handy to hook on my belt loop. I've only read the reviews of the otterbox and think it would be really great to be able to swim with the iPod. And since the question was about moisture and the iPod, I thought it would be a good rec.
