Question Ipod Nano 6th Generation: NEED HELP!

Hey, I basically brought my Ipod a year ago. It has been working perfectly until now and I don't how to fix it.

Basically, while playing music with earphones in before inserting it into your pocket, you'll click the button on the top right to put it to sleep so that the surface of your pocket doesn't mess with the touch pad.
But, when I switch my Ipod to sleep mode, it pauses the music with a delay of half a second and I really don't have a clue why.
(I'm not accidentally turning it off or anything like that)

I'm not sure if the answer is obvious or not but I've tried everything from turning it on and off to restoring the Ipod.

Help would be much appreciated

====================EDIT========================== ======

I've tried restoring to factory settings

Try restoring your iPod using iTunes. This will erase everything on it and put it back to factory standards. This is also generally the first step when trying to solve issues like these.
