No, that definitely isn't normal for an iPod (ANY iPod) to last only 3 hours before dying (if the battery is completely full, that takes around 4-5 hours to fully charge). Also, the capacity of an iPod nano varies with each model. You have some that can hold 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB. The capacity of your iPod nano is listed in iTunes and should also be on the actual back of the iPod itself. Now, the capacity does not directly translate to how many songs you can store.

This has to do with the music on your iPod and in your iTunes library. It is all compressed at certain bitrates. The higher the bitrate, the larger the file size. A 3 minute song with a bitrate of 128kbps will take up approximately 3MB whereas another 3 minute song with a bitrate of 256kbps will take up 6MB. That means that an 8GB iPod nano would be able to hold approximately 2400 songs if they were all three minutes long and had a bitrate of 128kbps. The same iPod nano would be able to hold 1200 songs if they were all three minutes and had a bitrate of 256kbps.

In order to sync videos to your iPod nano (which you cannot do with the 6G and 7G models), you would need to delete some music off of your iPod.
