Video playback is sideways (vertical)

Sometimes a video will playback vertically instead of horizontally like it was recorded.

How can I fix this?

Help!!!

Not sure I understand the problem. The playback of video recorded with the Nano video camera should be exactly what you saw when you recorded it.

So, if you rotated the Nano to landscape (horizontal) as you recorded it, you'll have to hold the Nano the same way when you play it back. It should be what you see while you record it is what you get when you play it back. If I'm totally missing your question, please try stating the question another way. Thanks.

I can relate

I think they mean when they playback the video on the computer it's not the way it was recorded.

I'm having the same issue, I record it one way and then when I move the file to the computer it's either upside down or sideways.

Having a heck of a time finding a program to rotate the video to. For free that is. Using windows.

Yes!
I take the video with horizontal view and then sometimes it comes out vertical on my pc. Last week I took 2 videos. The first one was vertical and the second one was horizontal (O.K.). I don't move the ipod around or anything while shooting...
Help! Is there a firmware fix or a program that will fix?

It is possible the accelerometer is defective in the iPod and it is not registering the right orientation when you take the video. The orientation of the iPod when taking the video may also have an impact as to how well the accelerometer will work. Although this would have to be taking a video straight up or down. Since it is a new iPod and should be under warranty I would contact Apple Care or visit an Apple Store. Depending on where you bought it you may be able to take it back for an exchange.

Thumbs up Solved!

It's not a hardware problem it's just how it is, when the video is put onto the pc the video outputs in whatever state it was shot in. It shows it right side up when your taking the video but then on output it shows it how it was recorded on how the device was held.

But fear not! I have found a free and simple program to help!

http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products...and-Rotate.htm

It really works helped me out a lot and even makes it into a avi. file in the end

It's not spam , I'm not a shill, and it really did save me from punching apple in the bag

Thank you! I fixed my vertical video. I still would like my nano not to do that, but what the heck, nothing's perfect...

*WARNING* This is a solution, but it's not without its caveats. I downloaded this tool and tried it, and because it has to uncompress the HD (720P) MOV video and recompress it into AVI, which is a far less sophisticated format, there WILL be a loss of quality. The output video will have noticable artifacts and pixelation.

It just happened to me ='(

I recorded it horizontally*, clicked the video and it showed horizontally with VLC. Then I wanted to edit a bit in the end, so I opened with Quicktime Pro and it showed sideways >=|

*Why Apple allow to record vertically!? If you want to make something rare & fancy, you should get a video editor... (If you watch 1000 videos online MAYBE 1 is vertical)

I will upload it on Vimeo as it is & see if it recognize it well. Wish me luck.
