Exclamation point tunes -ipod to computer

So if the exclamation point means the songs are on my Ipod, how do you get them back to your C drive?
I must have got them to itunes and then synched but I cant find them on my computer. Did i delete the files on my computer after I moved them over ?

Thanks - p

The exclamation point means that iTunes can't locate files on your computer -- the iPod is not involved. Did you delete your music files from the computer? (we're counting on you to know ;-) Or were they maybe on an external drive whose drive letter changed? Or were they on your computer's hard drive and you moved them around, in which case iTunes would have lost track of them?

If you can find them, it's p'bly easiest/best to just put them back exactly where they were before. If you can't find them or get them in the proper spots, then you'll have to copy them off the iPod. This excellent iLounge article will give you the complete how-to.

Thanks a bunch - yes - I deleted the music file (fortunately just 1 album) in question by mistake. Thanks also for the article - I'll copy it back - p

There's only one xml file that even matters a little, and that's "iTunes Music Library.xml". What xml files are you seeing and where are they located?

That's what the album was labeled when it arrived in the computer.
I finally decided to burn another copy of the CD.

Thanks for your help though - p
