iPod Nano washed

On Wednesday of this week, I accidently washed my nano. I took it out of the washer, and put it under a lamp for about a day. Yesterday, I try to see if it works, it won't turn on. I plug it up to the computer, and the iPod restarts. It syncs with iTunes and everything is working fine. I left it there until this morning. I come to the computer and unplug the iPod. The screen faded away when I unplugged it. I try to turn it on, but it won't. It's plugged up now, and it says the battery is full, but its not. Everytime I plug it up, it restarts. Can I still fix it? Or is it a goner?

Leave it alone to dry for longer (like a week). There may be water still inside it. Loungers have had good experience leaving their devices in a container of rice or other dessicant.

the uncooked rice soaks up the moisture. good idea. or silica packs....

I did what you said and put it in the rice. So how long should I keep it in there?

Let it dry, then send it in the Apple saying it stopped working. Worked for me; got a new one free of charge (even shipping!).

Two or three days in the rice should tell you if it still works or not.

The other day I ran to my car in a rain storm with my Nano in my shirt breast pocket. It was in an i-see-nano plastic case, but with the plug end up in my pocket. When I took it out of my pocket, it was on, and was giving me a message about not being able to transfer through a firewire port. The message would not go away. I removed the ipod from the case and let it dry out over night. Now it works perfectly. A few drops of water on the wrong end and it failed. Washing it will take much longer than over night to dry.

I like the idea of using rice as a desiccant.

I dropped my iPod in my dog's water bowl. Since it was summer and I live in Florida, I put it in the my car parked outside for a few days. That completely dried it out and it still worked. Unfortunately, not for long.

You fried the battery. Lithium-based batteries like the one in your nano don't like heat over 150˚F.

I put mine through the wash once too. All I did was put it on a bright windowsill for 2 days, and it has been working fine since.

I had a similar problem when an air stewardess poured a gin and tonic down the headphone socket of my 3G. My solution, and fairly standard practice in electronics, is first to remove any sticky or potentially conductive residue by washing thoroughly in distilled water. For hard disk ipods I strongly recommend dismantling the ipod and removing the hard disk first. With a nano (especially one which has been fully immersed) it will probably be ok to drop it into a glass of distilled water and leave it for 1/2 hour or so. Take it out occasionally and shake the water out to flush the crud out. Then take it out and gently shake it dry. Repeat the process, this time using Isopropyl alcohol - available from radio shack or maplins-isopropanol is a dessicant and will absorb the water in the ipod leaving a liquid which dries clean in a very short time.

How did she get the gin and tonic into such a small hole without soaking you and the exterior of the ipod at the same time? Most airlines will give passengers a small bottle of gin plus a can of tonic water and let you mix it yourself. If your iPod fails you might have a claim against the airline.

Yours is a very interesting solution to a wet problem.

Well its been 2 days and its still not coming on. So I'm about to give up on it.
