Nano can reset, but buttons don't work.

Ok here's the problem. My nano is detected by my PC, so I can easily upload and delete songs via iTunes. All of a sudden my nano's buttons and wheel won't respond. The funny thing is that it will reset if I hold down the menu and middle buttons. I tried restoring it to default settings and I get to the language select screen, but the buttons don't respond. Again, the reset works but nothing else does.

Anyone know how I can remedy this problem? Thanks in advance.

Have you checked the hold button on top? Seems silly, but it΄s the only reasonable explanation to your problem.

You laugh, I just picked up a 60gb photo for $25 and it was just the hold button being sticky. A decent charge, a couple of slides back and forth and I now have a 60gb photo.

I considered that too, but it's still the same.

Good find, btw.

Question Same thing!

I have the exact SAME problem! It resets, but it doesn't scroll or take any other inputs (besides hold.) I've reset it manually (middle and menu) and that works, but it won't recognize either menu nor the middle button, it's stuck on language selection.

I've restored, cleaned, and even took a razor blade to clean out the little space around the wheel (leaving a couple pretty scratches on the face. opps)

It's sitting on my TV right now, but im out of ideas. HELP!

Have any of you found a solution yet to this problem. My friends is doing the exact same thing. He gave it to me to try to fix it. I have yet to find a solution. I am likely going to initiate a service order for him. I am just wondering what all of you have done?

I have the EXACT problem! I can reset, restore & have my ipod recognized by my PC but nothing works.

I can't get into disc mode or diagnostic mode.

I've tried everything. Reformat, restore, let the battery die 100%. Nothing works! It just sticks on the language screen. It can't be a broken click-wheel or select button otherwise the reset would be impossible.

This problem has become prevalent in the Apple forums as well, so maybe it's a bug or virus. I don't know. Perhaps because I didn't transfer ownership they blacklisted it? Is that possible? Also, this unit was formatted for mac before I purchased it(now it's PC format). It did work fine for a couple weeks & then this happened out of nowhere. Never had a prob. with my first 2nd gen.

I can't return it cuz I bought it used without the original receipt(plus I scratched it up pretty good). The model is a 4GB 2nd gen silver. Please, somebody fill us in with what is going on with this issue!

Fully charged Nano overnight via power charger - Nano comes up but buttons still don't respond except "center + menu) and "hold" button - I can see the lock appear/disappear as I slide it.
Reset the Nano (center button and menu button)... Nano comes up but buttons still don't respond except "center + menu) and "hold" button - I can see the lock appear/disappear as I slide it.
Tried to update the Nano software via PC...software was already up to date.
Restored Nano software to original factory settings...keys still don't respond....now its asking for default language..
Checked on warranty w/serial number off the back...its out of warranty.
I cracked the Nano open with fingernails - http://revision3.com/systm/subsystm/ipodnano/ - keys still don't respond....now its asking for default language..
However, as soon as I put the silver back of the Nano back on THE KEYS STARTED WORKING!!. I don't know why....but it works now....

Pause Button won't work!

It's the "Pause" button only that is not working on my 2nd Generation Nano. Any suggestions?

Same problem here.

-Reset works
-Lock function works
-nothing else works

What i did that fixed it was vigorously move the lock button back and forth a bunch of times. Hope this helps.

Exactly the same - why can't some knowledgable Apple person comment???

Been through all the same stuff - reset, etc. Menu + Select resets, get to language screen, but can't Select even the displayed language. This must be some sort of software issue surely - since the button works to reset, but nothing else. Sliding the hold switch on & off is the only way to get it to light up - that works! Computer communications all fine, etc.
