Super glue rocks! A tiny bit and 15 seconds to dry and voila! Thanks for this tip!

Unfold a paper clip and heat one end of it over a naked flame (candle or gas hob will do it).

When it's really hot carefully push it into the iTouch and then into the plastic shaft of the headphone jack so that the plastic melts onto the paperclip.

Being careful not to move the paperclip around too much, let it cool for a few seconds and, if you're lucky, you should be able to pull the whole thing out.

Worked first time for me, having failed with super glue, tweezers and a fish hook!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! IT WORKED
The apple store where I live was planning to charge me $600 for a new logic board. No thank you.

Very ingenious. I am going to copy this into Evernote and save it for future reference.

Someone stuck something in my IPad. Also brand new and no repair place nearby. I live in Africa, not a whole lot of choices avail to me. I tried the super glue thing and other suggestions. Nothing worked. Finally I grabbed my Dremel and small bit. CAREFULLY, I inserted the bit, making sure it was straight, etc., I drilled the problem out. Plugged in my external speaker and it works great. Relieved.

Just fixed mine!

The very last segment of a headPhone jack broke off in my iPhone. I tried glue (scary!), hot paper clip (obvs didnt work as there was no plastic to adhere to) many tiny screwdrivers, etc. To find out what I was trying to extract, broke a extra cheap headphone jack to examine the little piece in more detail. I read about someone using an antenna segment to encase the piece and pull it out, so tried modifying a straw, which was too flimsy. Then I found a piece of very rigid foil (a small sheet of bendable metal, more like...not sure what it was for) in our beloved junk draw. I moulded it around the piece that I broke off the other headset to get the exact size and gently but very firmly slid it down an around the stuck bit (there is a little ridge you have to get around, so it took a number of tries!). At last I got it to grab hold of the little troublemaker and it rode out inside the foil.

Good luck!!!!

Does anyone have any ideas on how to remove it? I know opening the nano is not all that easy, or without risk, but once it's open, how much easier would it be to get that tiny piece of metal out?

I thought of another possible solution: put some instant glue on the remaining side of the jack, push it in, hope the two parts stick, and pull it out that way. Anyone here ever tried anything similar?

Thanks in advance!
I am trying the super glue method. I was in a hurry to get some headphones after I accidentally cut the cord on my old ones while gardening. Picked up some at the dollar store that broke off and got stuck. I found an old flat-head screw that's a little skinnier than the headphone thingy on my ipod. Did the super glue thing, put it on, waited half an hour, pulled it out. The stuck part did not come out, but it's much closer to the end. Repeating process to see if i can get it out the rest of the way. Will letcha all know if it worked. Thanks for the idea!

Repeat of super glue did not work. Hammered in a very short tack-screw with glue on the end. If this doesn't work I will try the skinny drill bit thing, but have to go out and buy the drill bit, as don't have one small enough. If that doesn't work, will probly give up and buy a new ipod or upgrade my phone to an iPhone. But I hope it works!
