Another update to the iPod 2G Nano firmware has been released.
Apple's description lists it as "bug fixes" and "Support for additional Nike+iPod voice kits" but does not otherwise provide any specific information as to what it fixes. The update should be detected by iTunes when you first connect your Nano and/or restart iTunes. If it is not showing up (ie, iTunes tells you that your iPod is up-to-date with a previous version), select the "Check for Updates" menu option under the Help menu (Windows) or the iTunes menu (Mac). I have applied it to both my 2Gb and 4Gb 2nd-Gen Nanos without incident, but I haven't yet noticed any differences. Note: This update is for the Second Generation iPod Nano only (the aluminum model). The First Generation iPod Nano remains at v1.2.

I just updated my nano to the version 1.1 firmware and it didn't fix the bug I have with my nano.
This is the second 2G nano I have bought. The first one I returned to Costco when I discovered it was too small for my needs, so I got an 8 GB and am experiencing the same problem: A song will play for about 2 seconds and then the playlist will "gobble" it up. The song will stop playing and it will skip to the next song. When going backwards in the playlist, the song is gone and the track that played before it will be present. Anybody else experiencing this? As mentioned, this also happened with the 2GB 2G nano I had previous to this. These tracks play normally on my 5G. |

I've done that and restored it several times since I've owned it.
Also, there are a bunch of people with this problem: ipod skips songs? |

Was this firmware just released today? I was connected to iTunes earlier in the day but didn't get a notice that new firmware was available.

Have you tried re-ripping the song that is giving you the problem. The new iPods seem to be less forgiving. I had to re-rip several cds that played fine on my 4th Gen iPod but had problems like you describe when played on my Nano.

I understand where you're coming from, but I think it's bull that I am going to have to end up doing that, considering that I'd like to listen to my music at whatever bitrate I choose.

I understand your frustration. I think the problem is more related to which encoder was used vs what bit rate. I re-ripped the problem cds using iTunes (mp3 not ACC) and at the same bit rate they were before. They all play flawlessly now. All the albums that the Nano had problems with were encoded around the same time. Unfortunately, I don't remember what encoder I was using back then.

In your post, you say firware version 1.1. The current version, however, is 1.0.2 for the 2nd gen nano (unless I missed something the last few days).
Possible you're trying to get the wrong firmware on there? |

Yeah, I'm using LAME at 192 Kbps and up. Lame is supposed to be the best MP3 encoder out there.
Some of my older tracks are doing the same thing, which is frustrating the heck out of me. Freaking a. |
