Hi everyboy.

i'm looking for someone who could give me a dump of his ipod nano 2nd gen firmware.
It's to help us to find the solution to uncap the EU ipod's nano.

It's very easy to make a dump of the firmware by using the Mac OS terminal.
Contact me by msn & i will tell you hopw it works.

Thanx.

Apple is turning into the most incompetent company ever. The 2nd Generation iPod Nano has been around for almost 2 month now, in which they released 3 or 4 firmware updates already. Nevertheless, they did not manage to make Smart Playlists nor On the Go Playlists work (for people that have more than 1000 songs on their Nano's).

That is totally ridiculous. It is not that any of the features are new or that they didn't have iPods before that were able to hold 1000 songs. Just imagine Microsoft would have done something like that...people would be bashing all over the place.

Anyway, I returned my 8GB iPod nano today since it is obviously defective. It says in the manual that it can do on the go playlists as well as smart playlists. The new nano I got doesn't seem to do it either, so I'll return that one next week as well. Let's see when I'll get a working unit...

Question Firmware Question

Do you guys think that upcoming iPod fw would allow you to download games just like you can with the iPod Video?

Hi and welcome to iLounge.

Those sort of questions are anybody's guess, but I suspect this is unlikely for a number of reasons. Firstly, I'm not entirely sure the Nano could handle games in terms of it's processor capabilities (not to mention they now seem to be using an entirely different chip-set from the larger models). The smaller screen would make game playback more difficult, and it would also diminish another advantage of the full-size iPod from a marketing point of view.

Ultimately, I suspect if Apple was going to do it, they probably would have already, since they're denying themselves a potential revenue source by not making the games available for the Nano (since they do sell them on the iTunes Store).

Is there anyway to get this firmware w/o having iTunes installed on your PC?

Unfortunately, not at this time. iTunes 7 is required not only to install the update, but to even download the update file.

Note, however, that you don't have to actually use iTunes beyond connecting your iPod to update it. If you're concerned about problems with iTunes 7, I don't think too many people have had problems with simply installing iTunes -- rather it's usability and stability issues within iTunes itself that most are having problems with.

In other words, if you installed iTunes 7, used it to update your Nano, and then simply shut it down and never used it again (or even uninstalled it), it shouldn't cause you any problems.

I updated when it first came out! iTunes kind of demanded I did so, like a stubborn child. I thought it was kinda weird that they really stuck it to me like that.

Does it improve the sound quality? My first generation nano sounds a lot better - fuller, rounder, especially on piano and voice.

Just installed firmware version 1.1.2 on my nano. Can't tell any difference in sound quality, but I wonder if it fixes the bug that won't let you add an album to a playlist if you have more than 1000 tracks on. The info. about it just said "bug fixes" so there is hope I suppose.
