hey guys,
need some advice here. i have a 2G silver mini, in mint condition (was in a case for the past 1.5 years), battery still works like 12+ hours or so with regular use (switching songs constantly, etc, but is it worth the upgrade to the new nano? the thing just looks so damn cool, but i dont know if its worth spending the money on when i have a perfectly good ipod already. btw, i cant give my old one to any family members, they all have ipods already |

I would say YES go for it! But seeing you said that you own a perfect condition mini then keep it so no. Personally I also have a 2G mini but because of the hard drive failure, I have no choice to upgrade from 6gig to 8gig because of its beauty
![]() ps: if you are really thinking to switch it to nano...two option keep the mini for files storage device or sell it on ebay since you can't give it to any family members |

ya i was thinking of ebay'ing it, but it still kind of feels like a waste to upgrade. i was actually kinda hoping my mini would break so i would have an excuse to get a new nano, haha. i dont know, the color screen and the smaller size seem really cool, plus i always like to have the 'latest' gadgets, but its hard to justify spending money on a new ipod for the reasons i stated above..

I had the same problem as you. I ended up buying the Nano, and I'm glad that I did. Now when I go back to handling the Mini, it just seems so bulky and ....I don't know, I just really don't like it anymore, now that I've experienced the Nano. I'd say if you have the extra cash, go for it.

It really depends if you need the features the 2G Nano has on it. Will you be storing/viewing photos? Do you want a color screen? If you want a large selection of colors, I assume you'll be getting the 4GB Nano, but it's kind of a waste when your Mini has the same capacity. And if you want a silver Nano, the only one you can get is the 2GB, and having LESS storage space is a bit of a downgrade, if you ask me. It's your choice, really, but if I had a mini that worked well, I wouldn't upgrade. It isn't worth it spending another $200 for a color screen and a thinner profile.
But then again, it depends HOW you use your iPod. I upgraded my 4GB Mini 2nd-Gen to a Black 1G Nano, partly because I didn't think I would be using 4GB of storage. Also, I was a student, so running around and jostling would make the HDD skip a lot. Now I regret it though, bcuz my 1GB Nano is full and the Mini, which I gave to my brother, I find yearning for.

honestly, i dont think i would use the photo feature all that much...i would probably throw some on there, but, ya i wouldnt use it that much. i would probably get a 4gb nano, as i have a 4gb mini now, and only have about 2.5 gbs of music i carry around with me..

Yeah, then there is really no point to buying a Nano if you don't use the photo-viewing function. Unless you're a jogger or a person with an active lifestyle and you don't like the idea of a player with moving parts..

As I posted elsewhere, don't forget the total cost of ownership, do u have to upgrade your accessories also?
I personally only upgrade when there is a must-have feature, or I've just grown plain tired of the current model. Still love my mini.

It is a waste. Keep using the mini until it fails then buy a new one - it may be the 3rd Gen Nano by that time! Remeber Apple plan on people just buying the new model even though their older ipod is perfectly good. The new models don't really have a huge difference to yours. Maybe if the nano had a fm receiver and transmitter, but as it is all you will get is colour screen and pics. Save your money. - GoldCoaster |

Could you use more space? The 8 GB Nano II may be a good option, if so.
Do you use the Mini while walking/running/dancing? If so a flash based device would be better. Otherwise, I'd stick with the Mini.

I would keep going with the Mini until it breaks unless:
1) Do you have more music than space on your mini ? 2) Will you store pictures ? 3) Do you require the extra storage space ? 4) Do you run with your iPod or do anything that may damage the HDD ? 5) Do you have the money for all the accesories dock, remote, lanyard etc if you want them ? think about that and then decide but personally I would stick with the mini until it fails (you never know the 'true video iPod' or 3G Nano (or whatevers next) may be out

thanks for all the input guys =) i think ill stick with the mini till it dies out, and hold out for the 3G if there is one. I dont really do any sports so i dont think the nano would be beneficial there, plus i dont really need the extra space, as my 4gb mini has only around 2.7 gb of music on it. photos would be cool, but i dont see me looking at them that often if i put them on there. again, appreciate all the advice guys!

No, keep the mini. It's the best one I think. Nano is too small and has a cheap feel to it. If I was a 12 year old girl with small hands the nano might be nice. Mini was perfect and they should have kept it. Had an excellent feel to it and was plenty small to fit everywhere. I know it's tempting when a new toy comes out to have it, but it's just an MP3 player. Nothing more. If you have one that works, why change.
