iPod not working, can't format it

Hi guys,

I just came back from vacation in Spain and during my trip my iPod suddenly stopped working and this is what my iPod says:

www.apple.com/support/ipod

I went to DISKMODE and:

- I tried to restart the iPod but it didn't helped anything.

- I tried to format the iPod through My Computer but this is what I got:

The disk in drive O cannot be formatted.

---------------------------
"

Then I remembered I used a HP USB formatting tool once when I had problems with installing linux on my iPod, after downloading that program I opened it and when I click on start format it says:

Error
---------------------------
Device media is write-protected.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
"

I don't know what to do because the iPod updater program says "can't mount iPod" when I try to restore it, thats why I want to format it but it seems like it isn't possible.

Anyone knows what to do?

Try putting it into disk mode then running the updater while in disk mode. (A reset will take an iPod back out of disk mode.)
