Nano Isn't Working With Bose SoundDock

I just bought a Bose SoundDock and I have a 20GB Ipod and a Ipod Nano. The 20GB Ipod works fine but the Nano is not generating any sound while attached to the SoundDock. The display screen shows that the songs are "playing" but there is no audible sound. I've made sure that I have the latest software for the Nano and it is attached correctly. The volume is turned up. Ever heard of this happening...any suggestions on correcting the problem? Thanks in advance.

Contact the company and ask about nano compatibility

Nano and SoundDock

I am having the same problem and it has nothing to do with the insert. Bose promptly told me it was an insert problem, however, I am on my second sounddock both times using the insert and the same thing happens. The controls all function with the remote but no sound. When I hook up the Mini, everything is fine. Anyone else have any insight on this issue.

Thanks.

I had the same problem in my car when playing through a SIK DIN. I found that inserting headphones into the headphone jack would enable the audio. So, just plug in some phones and remove them, then insert into your Bose thingamajig.

It worked!

It worked!

Thanks for the reply. I still am not sure if I want to live with this setup though. You would think there would be some other solution, like making it work right in the first place.

Thanks again.

I think there's something strange about the way Apple designed the nano's audio on circuitry. I noticed right from the beginning that the nano's output comes on when I connect headphones (something that didn't happen with other iPods). I'll bet it works just fine in a nano or universal dock. However, existing products like the Bose SoundDock will need to be slightly modified to correct this problem.

If you have a junk pair of headphones laying around, just cut off the jack and keep it near the SoundDock. Also, I think as long as you leave it connected to the SoundDock, it should continue to have the audio enabled, even if the iPod sleeps. But let us know about that.
