When i slide my volume up from say 1/4 to full at about half way i get crackling in my left earphone, quiet but annoying . I have tried several earphones and get the same.
It doesnt happen on all my mp3s which leads me to think it may be a VBR or other bitrate encoder issue.

wow. the exact same thing happens to me. same earphone too. Its subtle though, subtle enough for it not to be terribly annoying, but if you listen for it you can hear it. And it seems to be mildly intermitant.
