this is my exact concern with a full body protector, including the clickwheel. i was afraid that, eventually air bubbles will get trapped between the clickwheel and the overlay...

i think the full overlay would look better than the cutout version, might as well change the whole feel and lookof the nano rather than only changing only parts

has anyone, other than Tokay, have used the invisibleshield long enough that can give us some insight on this?

thanks

Just an update to say my shield arrived today, and I've just applied it. I managed to resist temptation up until now, and so the nano went straight from original plastic cover to the new shield.

One hint... don't be too stingy with the amount of soap in the water. I didn't have enough and the shield was too "tacky" to slide. I could pull it off and put it back, but it wouldn't slide so I had to quickly add more soap.

It was a little worrying applying, but even the "product care" section of the nano manual says to clean it with a damp cloth... so it must be at least a little water resistant. I chose to place it face down on the film after applying, so that any water will hopefully flow back through the cracks around the wheel and dry on the sheet.

The film itself seems very clear, maybe the tiniest texture if you hold it just right under a bright light, and it's actually a tiny bit soft... which I suppose helps it absorb scatches rather than marring. I can't say anything else, as I'm surely not turning the thing on, or even touching it, until this time tomorrow. Even then, I think I'll be applying the back piece and leaving to dry again... get it all over and done with!

Wish my nano luck!

also, it scrolls at "normal" speed?
Well, it's not like *nothing* is on it.. but the response you get from clicking the buttons, is the same as far I as can remember it being without the shield!
No change in scroll speed. As mentioned, I feel have more control with the shield..

cow07: Happy to help out! I'm sure you'll be more than satisfied with the shield!

Finally got my invisible shield, still waiting for my nano (it has finally shipped hurray!), would you reccommend applying one layer per day rather than do both at the same time on the same day? And if it were only one layer, which would you start with? front or back?

I'd start with the front. That way when you have it up side down applying the back side, the face is protected. You could do both the same day. Just give the first side a few minutes to set up.

bad experience with my invisible shield!

I bought a Nano (4gb black) a couple weeks ago, and this being my second iPod I knew I really needed to take care of it to prevent scratches. My first 20gb 2G iPod's back scratched up pretty badly, but I didn't care at the time (wasn't gonna put my iPod in a case, it looked nice)

After a couple days of babying this nano I saw a few hairline scratches here and there. All the care of the metal back worked out, but it was the front that was getting scratched!

Anyways, I purchased an Invisible Shield and it was here in about 3 days. I put the front on, then the back. After setting out for a couple hours, I wasn't very happy with the shield. I could throw it around and not get it scratched up anymore (finally use it as an iPod -- in the car, walking around, not worrying about which pocket my keys are in), but I didn't like the buttons.

The matte click wheel made scrolling much easier but with the Invisible Shield on it wasn't as easy to scroll around. Also buttons didn't really click as much as they should have (sometimes I'd have to click Menu twice, and sometimes clicking Menu would push the center button down, etc.). I also had this weird problem with the iPod informing me that the iPod couldn't accept a Firewire connection when nothing was connected to it. It only happened a couple times as the iPod was drying so it didn't bother me much.

I took the Shield-covered Nano out on a hot day, and went to the park to relax, and I pushed the center button to scroll through a long mp3 I had and it didn't really give at all. I pushed harder, and I could scroll around, but then 10 minutes later the button stopped working completely. I thought the Shield had melted around the button, pressing on it when my finger wasn't pushing down, and when I got home I took off the shield and the button still didn't work.

I took off the whole shield and went to my local Apple store, which thankfully replaced the unit no questions asked. I e-mailed The Invisible Shield informing them of my issue and they have NOT replied (this was about a week ago).

I think if the scroll wheel were a separate piece from the front housing then the issue would not have happened. I am pretty sure the pressure of the Invisible Shield caused my button to break, but of course not 100% sure as this is not a widespread problem. I e-mailed them saying the best solution would be to have a cutout for the click wheel, and a shield for the button. The click wheel itself is a matte finish and I don't think it should be covered.

Anyways, I am probably keeping my Invisible Shield, just for the back which covers the sides well too. I haven't taken off the front cover from my new Nano yet, and I'm thinking of buying a new front with a cutout for the wheel and making my own center button cover from the front of the Invisible Shield that I have. I'm not happy with Invisible Shield's lack of reply, and although overall I'm happy with the Invisible Shield (save my button breaking), but it's not 100%. It gets kind of sticky on a hot day and you can see a lot of smudges on the shield. I'm using the back that I took off (it's nicely reusable) on my new Nano.

however, do you know about the other version of the invisible shield they started selling? its the same skin but with the clickwheel section cut out, leaving it exposed

Um, no I did not notice the new option, lol. That is the EXACT thing I e-mailed to Invisible Shield.. to leave the click wheel uncovered.. maybe they took my concerns into consideration? They never e-mailed me back *shrug*

I don't think you should worry really, I think when I applied the front of my invisible shield I went a bit too airtight and probably stuck the front cover on too tight, as it was affecting my buttons. Other than that it's a really good protector and the full-coverage back is pretty cool. I'm thinking of cutting out little pieces to cover the corners too.

I guess I'll call them tomorrow to exchange my Invisible Shield. The front sticker the iPod came with is working fine for me now.

Just thought I'd like to add, it was kinda funny when i took off the back from my old nano. You could see iPod and the logo and even read the tiny serial numbers on the Invisible Shield. I put it on my new Nano and the serial numbers/ipod logo were invisible again. Also when I reapplied the Invisible Shield (it was about 6 hours time in between taking off/reapplying) there were some water/soap marks I saw that disappeared on the 2nd day.

Taking the Invisible Shield off took a few minutes of slight tugging... it kind of stretched the Invisible Shield out of shape so when I went to reapply it was a fraction of a millimeter too long... after it dried it wasn't a problem.

I think the cut out for the wheel is the way to go. Less chance of water in the Nano and a more positive button feel.

have you guys, the ones thinking about getting the cutout version, that dirt and dust will get in the areas of the clickwheel cutout. you'll be using the clickwheel, touching it the most out of the whole player. i think there will be a huge chance the the overlay will start to peel and loose its adhesive nature. im not sure on this one, but thats just my theory and no ones been having problems with the full overlay so based on what i just said and other peoples experience...the full overlay should be the "best" one out there

BUY IT I HAVE IT AND IT ROX!!!!

i read the reviews on the shield melting and destroying the click wheel and how hard it was to navigate the click wheel.....FOR ME, i have not had ONE problem. b4 i put the shield on, i used the brasso idea and worked like a charm, then put on the shield and it navigates very well for me....just a positive review lol

That's some pretty good adhesive. It's not like your average decal adhesive like the decal girl for instance. I couldn't see it coming up easily. Even around the click wheel. I've been taking mine in and out of my pocket for about a week now and there's no sign of the corners peeling back or anything. I think If it can stand up to that it can stand up to getting fingered.

Delivery time

To all those who received the Invisible Shield:

How long did it take to get to you from when you ordered it to when it arrived?

I was billed last Thursday, and I haven't gotten it yet. Did any of you get a shipment notice? Thanks.
