Thanks for those, TheJosher!

gouged, the front part actually is the easy one in my opinion, since the sides are on the back film. I'm gonna do that one now, and let it dry through the night.
It's gonna be tricky, as the film has small parts to cover the little space between the headphone outlet and the port connector, as well as the space besides the hold button.

The nano will hopefully be ready for a photo session tomorrow!

Well, that went surprisingly easy. Back film is now applied. There was a tip in the application instructions that made it a whole lot easier. quote: "If some of the edges do not want to stick down immediately, let the film sit and dry for approx. one minute, then wrap the material around the edges, and hold the problem areas down for approx. 20 seconds."

This worked like a charm, as the film was very sticky after drying it for about a minute.
I'm gonna sleep like a baby tonight, knowing my nano is well protected.

Will post pics when it has dried completely.

edit:
I read about the rainbow effect a few pages back, and saw the updated RainyDayMagazine review with pictures. If I hold it at a VERY specific angle, and with proper lighting, I can see the rainbow effect. BUT, this was present without the shield as well! Anyone with a unprotected nano can try this out for themselves

Anyway, IF the shield would've have caused the rainbow effect, I wouldn't have cared AT ALL. I'm quite the perfectionist as mentioned before, but this is where I draw the line.
If I in the future post in this forum, going "dude, there's a rainbow on my screen when I hold it tilted 34.23 degrees west up against my Die Hard-grade floodlight!!111",
please, kick me fiercely in the groin area.

Thanks for the pictures, Tokay.

Just a question. Does the shield remove the appearance of scratches for the front and back?

My nano is only 2 weeks old, and i'm already quite annoyed by the scratches that were mostly caused by me trying to wipe of smudges. In fact, I was even thinking of brushing my nano to keep it's mirror back from looking so gooey from all the handling. But i have since ordered the invisible shield.

Yes, danielboy! None of my scratches (from a week of use) are visible anymore. These were only hairline scratches though, nothing deep. Any scratches from cleaning it, should certainly be masked by the film.

I used a microfiber cloth (that came with my cellphone, actually), and it's been working well. If you use microfiber, it needs to be VERY fine-woven material. Regular microfiber WILL scratch it. Try to get hold of microfiber designed for cleaning LCD screens, as these are designed not to scratch up the plastic coating on most LCD screens.

Ironically i was using the cloth that came with my Sony ericsson t610. Then i tried to polish the scratches off the front with brasso. And somehow, that got the metal part scratched. It's a vicious cycle i tell you. Basically the gloss is not meant to stay beyond a week with any use.

Why oh why can't apple make the thing out of matte aluminium. It's really kind of contradictory that they seem so concerned about design and 'human interface' when their design is entirely impractical to touch. So much so that Nokia decided to follow Apple and make their premium phone a chrome gloss again too. I know the glossy look adds to it's premium, but do rich people not have sweaty hands? Maybe they wear gloves all the time?

people like pretty shiny things... :P

i also read this article about how, according to the author, the design of the ipod is very much liken to bathroom stuff.. like porcelain and metal pipes. makes people think "clean"

pretty interesting theory

But there are plenty of other finishes that can look expensive too. The Powerbooks for instance don't look cheap despite not being a gigantic fingerprinting pad. The ipod is like one of those things the CSI use to lift prints off of railings or windows.

In any case, the ipod's plastic front isn't exactly what i would call "high quality". Glossy yes, for the first 24 hours. But "high quality"?

Even more so for the nano. I wouldn't say different nano's have different grades of plastic, but I'm quite certain the nano's have a different grade plastic from the large size ipods.

Oh well, I just have to get over the anal period I suppose. Seeing my friend's scratched up 3G ipod is so liberating, all scratched up and not a care in the world. Maybe the glossy ipod surfaces were meant to be clear canvases for us to apply/inflict our character upon.

Hey Tokay, nice to hear that the back application was easier than expected!

How's it coming along so far? Could you perhaps try to take some photos of your screen with the ipod on?

Many thanks!

It's looking very good so far. I will post pics later today, and I can include some pics with the screen turned on.

SO, what about taking this thing off? Is it possible? What if you wanted to sell it in the future without the shield? What if you wanted to get it serviced for a new battery or something? How hard will it be to take the shield off?

The seller says it is possible. Just that you should do it slowly and not yank.

If you need servicing, you should probably take the shield off, send for a new shield as per the seller's instructions. Once you get the new shield, send them the old one and reapply your shield on the 'new' ipod you get from Apple.

Otherwise i doubt anyone here, who have just painstakingly applied their shield is going to try taking it off any time soon.

Here we go, pics of the back.

img260.imageshack.us/img260/288/img41441ef.jpg
img260.imageshack.us/img260/8600/img41455wm.jpg
img260.imageshack.us/img260/4382/img41466id.jpg

The last one is the screen, showing that clarity shouldn't be a problem!
The finish is a bit nubby, as described in earlier posts&reviews. It shows a bit better on the metal back than on the front. Personally, I like this texture. And the back looks a lot clearer because the film doesn't show fingerprints in the way the unprotected metal did.

Again, sorry for the crap links, still not an established member.
