Unhappy Dock Issues -- Help!

Hi all --

About a week ago, I got a Ipod photo 60gb, installed the software, and everything was fine. Today, I purchased an Ipod Dock for photo Ipods, and I can't get anything to work. I downloaded the newest version of updater (2005-3-23) and installed it (after uninstalling the old version), but the when I run it the updater claims that "the attached Ipod model is not supported by this application," and it won't update my Ipod, and I can't use iTunes.

Does anyone have any ideas about what I'm doing wrong? Any advice would be soooooooo appreciated.

Thanks a mill in advance!

I actually have already solved the problem by posting the same message on the Apple board and getting the following replies -- but to answer your question (and the question of the last post below), YES, the front ports are USB 2.0. I really don't understand what's going on here, but as long as it's working, I guess it's okay. Thanks for your help. Anyway, for the edification of anyone with the same problem, here's the thread from Apple...

Hi all --

New to this board, so I apologize for any naivete in advance.

PS After looking through some other posts, I'm noticing several people with similar problems. Are there any mods or techs who monitor this board that can help?

Try a different USB port. Worked for me.

Yup, that did it. That is nuts! It worked fine on the front USB port when I wasn't using a dock, but a dock makes it only work on the back? Who's designing this stuff?!

Anyway, thanks so much for your help...

Maybe there is just enough of a voltage drop with the dock in use that the USB2 port can't quite handle it? I would also verify that the front ports are indeed USB2 as I've used a number of PCs where only the rear ports are true USB2 and the fronts are actually USB1.1 ports. I guess that the USB ports actually on the board are powered off the board and the front ports are simply for data transfer and don't really have full USB2 power though they may have enough to charge a USB2 device.

Hey Billku, I see we're following each other around the forums. Glad your problem is fixed. Seems like we're not the only ones who have suffered... by a long shot!
