i got a 3rd gen and i use firewore but on my new laptop which im hoping to use my ipod with it has the mini firewire port that wont charge. since syncing the music takes alot of battery power if its not being charged, is there any way to use maybe a usb to firewire adapter then plug it into the usb 2.0 port? i dont know if an adapter would carry the charge tho...
got any ideas?

Why don't you just buy a dock connector to USB cable? Then you can charge and transfer songs.

The 3rd gen. iPods CANNOT charge through USB 2.0 Here is the cable you will need to sync to the iPod. It will charge and synce but the cable is split. It has a USB 2.0 connector to be plugged into the computer and the firewire plug to go into the iPod's ac adapter. Here is the link:
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL....0.1.1.2.1.0.1 This is the ONLY cable that will allow you to charge and transfer through USB 2.0 on a 3rd gen. iPod

Just remember that a single USB 2.0 cable will NOT charge and synce the 3rd gen iPod, it will only sync.
