Deleted files from disk use still taking up space

Ok, i have a 6gb ipod. formatted for windows. recently i took a file of about 2 gb and stored them on the ipod. i connected my ipod to a g4 imac, downloaded the files and then deleted the folder. however when i reopen itunes on either the mac or the pc the 2gb is still there. however when i check to see if the files are still there, it says its deleted. i should have 3.5 gigs free instead it says i have something like 258 mbs free.

any suggestions?

If you have all your music in iTunes just re-format the 'pod and start again
