I purchased a 3G 20G iPod from Amazon in July, 2004, but Apple says that the serial number for my iPod was registered in February, 2004 (and is thereby not in warranty period)!
I have the Amazon packing list and invoice and each says the iPod was purchased in July, 2004, but neither shows the iPod serial number. Apple says that the invoice must show serial number to prove date of purchase. Needless to say, I need warranty service and neither Amazon nor Apple are willing to help. Any one else have this happen? Any advice??? Thanks! |

talk to amazon.com and ask them why is your ipod registred before you bought it ...
Maybe someone else had that ipod and they returned it and they are selling them as new ... it could be a possibility .. Musicroom

I bought ipod photo 30gb from amazon and the invoice does not show any serial number. I do not think amazon invoice shows serial number. Talk to amazon and ask about this. If they confirm call apple again and tell them that they are lying about the "invoice must show serial number to prove purchase" part.
About earlier registration, you have to talk to amazon. Quote:

I talked to Apple and they said that they just assumed that my iPod was purchased in February, 2004, since it has been manufactured in January, 2004. 99% of all iPods are purchased within 90 days of manufacture. Apprently, if you fail to register the iPod with Apple, they will just assume it was purcahsed a short time after it was manufactured.
Apple gave me a number to fax in my Amazon receipt and said that they would readjust my purchase date. Nice going Apple! |

Did you definately buy it from Amazon themselves ? Not just a reseller trading on there ?

I bought it directly from Amazon.
The lesson here, I think, is to buy the iPods from the Apple Store, which will replace the things on the spot. This is the 2nd of the 4 iPods in our family to go bad in the past few weeks. |

2 weeks later and Apple finally updated the purchase date to the date on my receipt. I had to fax the info to Apple 3 times and talk to customer support twice before it worked. That night I returned the broken iPod to the Apple Store and got a new one (for a $30 recycling fee - what's the deal with that?).
