Airplay experience

Hi all-

I would like to share my airplay experience with you all since I got the recommendation from here.

I live in SF bay area, hence, big city, not a whole lot of empty stations...

I plug this baby in and it literally it worked in seconds!! I know it all depends on a lot of variables including the car you drive, the city etc.. but i've read it someone in SF uses 87.9 and that's what i've tried, and bam! it worked like a charm!

I did not get that weird humming noise that some people were complaining about, so I think it maybe a batch related problem..

The only thing I worried about is draining my battery... I have not used it long enough to test this, but will repost later.

thanks!

Thx fayewolf - looking forward to the update. I'm deciding between airplay and iCarPlay Plus, and I'd definitely prefer a solution that doesn't force me to run a power cable when I don't need one.

My expectations are low given how clogged the airwaves are here in LA, but you give me hope...

I'm excited to hear this! I've been looking for more good reviews before I run out & buy it...but like you said, it's so location-specific that just because it works one place it might not work another. Hopefully it will work for me too!

It would be nice to hear different people's experience in different city and what station works best.

However, I tried my airplay in my husband's car (BMW) and signal 88.9 didn't work, I was only going to the supermarket, and didn't have time to explore other station, but it was strange, in my car it's almost excellent..just a little update.

sarahe - thought about PMing you on this but figured I might as well share the update. I already posted this on another thread earlier today...

I'd pretty much given up on the FM transmitter thing in LA. Then I tried the NewerTech RoadTrip!+ (87.9)

It's cheap and it's ugly. It also
1. works in Los Angeles, despite our overcrowded airwaves
2. sounds MUCH better than I'd hoped
3. charges my ipod

Unless you live in the Bay Area, where apparently there is a station licensed to broadcast on 87.9, this thing looks like a winner.

Sincere thanks to the ipodlounge staff for posting the review that made it possible for me to listen to my ipod in my car! I'd given up hope...

I have used both Airplay and iTrip.

iTrip was a pain in the ### to control - if a signal appears on the channel as you drive you have to do a lot more to change it then with Airplay.

Airplay is MUCH easier to use, smaller and just more pleasing to the eye, IMHO. Has digital display too. No need to install anything, plug and play. It also seemed to me that the Airplay signal was much stronger and/or better quality.

I returned my iTrip and kept Airplay. I am in NYC, and you can find enough stations to use it. It can even play on the "full" stations, overriding their signal, unlike iTrip

But PLEASE dont expect to get CD quality sound with ANY FM transmitter. You wont.

Hope this helped.
