I have a 40GB third generation iPod that finally needed it's battery replaced and i didn't want to pay the $99 Apple charges for their battery replacement program so i decided to bite the bullet and do it myself. The replacement battery i kept seeing/hearing get the best review's was the one from Newer Technology and i must say it more then lives up to it's praise.
First of all it's $25.99 and is a more powerful battery (rated at 850mAH opposed to Apple's 550mAH) adding an extra 30% run time per charge...i estimate my iPod lasts about 1 1/2 to 2 hours longer with this new battery. Second it come with excellent nylon/plastic tools (NOT metal) for prying open your iPod case without leaving any scratches, dents or marks. Finally, the website i ordered it from (OWC) has an excellent tutorial Quicktime movie (forget about the instruction manual that comes with the battery) that you can follow along with step by step as you replace your battery. Believe me when i say that the tutorial movie make's replacing the battery a breeze. Just follow the link below and then click onto the generation iPod model you have (1G, 2G, 3G or 4G...no iPod Mini yet) to go to the ordering and Quicktime movie page. Bookmark this page so that when your battery finally arrive's you can watch that tutorial movie. http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_Pa...od%20Batteries |

I'm from Australia, and I have had my ipod since September (which isn't that long when you think about it...)
And I was on a 6 hour drive, and me and my best mate had our ipods. Hers was for Xmas, so mine was like 3 months older. We just let it randomly shuffle through, same volume, same everything-and by the 5th hour of the trip, my Ipod was down to 1/4 battery, and my best mates was still on 3/4. Is this telling me I need to replace it? I rekon so, just an opinion would be nice. Oh and when I like listen to it for like 10 minutes, it already goes to 3/4 of a battery. Help! And because I live in country Australia, if I send it off-how long will I be all by myself? ![]() Oh btw its a 4g 20gb ![]() Thanks if ya could help! xx |

I purchased a Newertech replacement battery from the web site mentioned above for my 3G 40Gb iPod. The battery was delivered to my home within two days.
The video on the company's web site really clarifies the procedure. It's a good thing too, because the printed instructions packed with the battery are microscopic. I literally could not read them -- even with a magnifying glass. The replacement was completed from beginning to end in less than five minutes. The entire process was much simpler than anticipated and I am very pleased with the results. |
