Welcome to the lounge.
Are you using a Mac or a PC?

For MAC I would suggest using PodUtil.

For Windows I would use iPod Agent which will allow you to copy songs from iPod to PC. You can get the link for iPod Agent as #1 in my sig below.

Both of these programs will allow you to copy songs from your iPod to your computer.

Yes, plug in your iPod, click no to everything, then through iTunes (also click no to anything that says you have to erase your iPod) then click on Edit, then click on Preferences, then click on the iPod tab. Then check the box next to manual sync. Then go here to get the songs off your iPod:

If you have a mac formatted iPod, then you will have to use Xplay 2 to copy the songs off your iPod. Google Xplay 2 as I don't know what their website is. Or you can use PodUtil to copy the songs from a Mac formatted iPod to windows. To check which OS your iPod is formatted for, turn on your iPod, make sure you are at the main menu, go down to Settings, then open About. Scroll down and you will see the Format.

Actually it isn't illegal in my opinion. Someone probably paid for the songs. So who cares if he takes them off. Who wouldn't take the songs off if they like them.
